New Computer Build Empty New Computer Build

Post by Toni on Tue Sep 20, 2011 1:41 am

my computer recently stopped working, i came to the conclusion that it's not worth fixing, so now i'm looking into building a new computer altogether...the computer was pretty old and outdated so i think it's best to just start over...what i'm asking for is help on what parts i should buy and making sure certain parts are compatible with each other, i never built a computer before so i'm gonna be learning as i go...my budget for parts will be around $600, but idk what a good computer now a days goes for so this price may go higher if i feel it's worth it...

any help would be very much appreciated,

BTW I also build computers all the time, live in Canadia though... but right now I'm in PA.

If you are looking for a pure gaming machine, take tactics' build and definitely tone down the processor: to save money on it and the motherboard. Then beef up the GPU and get a more stable PSU. Without the case you would definitely be at about $600. If you would like more info feel free to message me. (eg. for particulars about what you should buy)

Get this guy to build it, but choose good parts... go with Intel for Cpu, and youll need a new power supply

These are the parts i came up with, i'm not sure if all the parts are compatible with each other, i'm leaning more towards a gaming machine, but i'm not happy with the total price. If anyone can tell me if these parts will work together and if theres any parts slightly less in price but still good, i'd really appreciate it.

**(I just realised that my cpu n mobo won't work together because of different brands, intel and AMD.)**

Parts:

(CPU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073 $209.99

(Motherboard) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510 $139.99

(Heatsink) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 $29.99

(DVD Burner) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 $20.99

(RAM) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345 $58.99

(HD) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148725 $64.99

(PSU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171052 $79.99

(Video Card) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130613 $319.99

Total: $924.92

Tactics- i like that cpu that you mentioned, but the rest don't really work for me. thx for the help.

Meh- that's a good site, i got some ideas from it. thx

Mike- i think i'm gonna give it a shot to build the comp, i know some people around that have some experience in building computers incase i need some help, but in the worse case scenario i'll contact you, i appreciate the offer.

Kro- thanks for the help, i sent you a msg on the forums about these parts.

Forty- nice specs, do you play soccer with the 4 monitors? if so, i think i just found out y your an "allstar" goalie.

What games are you going to be playing other than css? That gtx 570 is overkill, I'd say get a gtx 560ti or amd 6950 at most, also if you can get a corsair, seasonic, or enermax power supply as those are some of the top quality power supplies.

New Computer Build Empty Re: New Computer Build

Post by Toni on Fri Sep 23, 2011 4:58 pm

My computer was pretty bad so i had no choice in game selection, css and haxball Smile was the best i could do, i had to use a lot of the lower settings in css to get 30-45 fps on average, some days we're worse. So i'll be playing any game. I play on 1600 x 1024 resolution. Mike/Nad what parts are you using for the build that adds up to $500?

Updated Parts List:

(CPU/RAM) http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.723504 -----$263.98
(Motherboard) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130582 -----$134.99
(Heatsink) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 ------$29.99
(DVD Burner) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 -----$20.99
(HD) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136793 -----$99.99
(PSU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020 -----$84.99
(Video Card) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604 -----$249.99

Total: $884.92

-Price is still alittle bit to high for me, if theres any cheaper prices but still good quality please let me know. thx

Whats wrong with my build, both of your builds are way over your budget, and is quite overkill for css.

It is overkill for CSS, but CSS is god damn old, and Toni expressed an interest in other games. Your build is OK, but from a pure gaming machine it will not perform as well as others even at the same price point. To be honest all we're doing is providing options and opinions. That being said, let me express mine which is that I think you should, at any budget under $800 for a gaming machine, go with an AMD build so you have a larger budget for graphics card and a good quality power supply. As well, make sure the motherboard runs at least x8, x8 for crossfire/SLI since there is almost little point in spending this much money on a gaming machine and not leaving the upgrade path open. This is especially true since most current gen cards have very good scaling. (ie. DAMN GOOD)

^ + 1.

Laptops are not good to game on, unless you sacrifice portability.

Either way a laptop is going to be more expensive and not give very good frames. I can still give you suggestions if that is what you want, but check my PM first.
