Help! (server lag) Empty Help! (server lag)

Post by Dill Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:04 am

My latency to servers has recently increased by about 20-40 and I'm not sure why or how to fix it. But I'm used to pings in the 50's to the PSL and NBS server but now I'm getting a constant 80-100.

Its your routes to different servers...you really cannot do anything but let it fix itself out...I called my ISP a while back and they said they cannot do anything about it, so I assume no ISP can....

They'll probably just play the blame game. Your ISP will blame the server company, the server company will blame your ISP.

But in the longshot hope that the server company actually does something about it, I made a support ticket asking them to take a look at your routing issue. NFO is one of the better companies for dealing with routing issues and manning up to take the blame if its a issue on their side, but I still wouldn't give my hopes up.

I need more information to help. What internet service provider do you have? What modem do you have? If you can look up the firmware on the modem that would also be helpful.

At my request, InterNAP just tweaked the outbound a little to improve his latencies as much as they could from this side:

Help! (server lag) Empty Re: Help! (server lag)

Wireshark was super complicated. I installed it but I have no clue wtf any of it means.

When hooked up directly to the modem today my ping went down to 30. Then a few pugs later it was back to 70. Then I re-hooked up the router and it was around 80. Then tried the modem directly again and it went down to 60 and eventually up to 130. : / Now it's at 30 still directly hooked up to the modem.

My PC is the only thing connected to the internet and I have no other applications running that I know of that may try to ninja update themselves. But spiking up to 130 make NO sense and why my router has NEVER gotten me down to 30 makes NO SENSE!!!!

Suggestions now?

As I said Dill, it is your route from you to the server, you really cannot do anything except let it fix itself...Usually when you connect directly to a modem, it will give you a different IP than what you had being connected to the router (Im referring to a private IP, not the public 192.168 BS), usually if you change your IP, it could possibly change the route, but likely won't....Honestly, maybe just try to restart your modem (unplug, wait 30 seconds, go) and do the same for your router...
